
I used to hate videoing. Following a teleprompter that moved too fast or too slow, using my best ‘presenting’ voice, all the while wondering if I sounded credible… And if anyone really cared anyway!
Last week was a video day (well, half a day), and I actually woke up looking forward to it.
These days, I map out what I want to say and how I want to say it – and then I abandon the script. I just ‘be me’. Who would have thought it could be so hard to be yourself?
One of the best decisions I’ve made ( apart from working on video presence with the incredibly talented Mo McRae last year) is to have Jacinta join me on video days. It becomes a conversation. She tells me if it has landed, and we move on. If not — we shoot again.
Each video day I become a little more me. It’s still a work in progress. As my favourite leadership author, Dr Seuss, reminds us:
‘Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You.’
