
The best leaders I work with don’t see coaching as a fix for failure.
They see it as fuel for longevity.
Because leadership doesn’t get simpler as you go.
The decisions get bigger. The impact gets wider.
The stakes are higher.
There complexity is greater.
More people looking to you for clarity when things aren’t clear.
And here’s what doesn’t get said often enough:
The more senior you are, the fewer places you have where you can think out loud.
Not perform.
Not present.
Not have the answer.
Just think.
That’s what coaching gives leaders.
Not more information.
Not another model.
Space.
Space to step out of the noise.
Space to challenge your own thinking.
Space to notice what you’ve been too busy to see.
A good coach isn’t there to agree with you.
In fact, I often say to clients: You can guarantee I’ll always be in your corner.
You can also guarantee that sometimes it won’t feel like that
Because my role isn’t to be a friend. You’ve got those.
My role is to know when to support… and when to challenge.
When to back you… and when to push your thinking further than you’d go on your own.
The leaders who last the distance build this in on purpose.
Because they know:
You can’t lead with clarity if you haven’t created it for yourself.
You can’t ask better questions if you’re too busy reacting.
And you can’t see what’s coming if you never stop to think.
So if you’re leading the charge in 2026, ask yourself:
Who’s giving you the space — and the challenge — to stay sharp enough to last?
